an impressive, exemplary job in the education sector.
It is easy to think the man, has a magic wand, he waves every time he comes across a problem, cast away corruption, shoo away exam cheating, banish away all manner of evil affecting the educating sector.
However, the cabinet secretary of education is not superman, he is all very human! Flesh and bone, the only difference is that he does not let a difficult situation fizzle him.

Fred Okengo Matiang’I was born in Borabu, Nyamira County where from a young age he attended the Seventh day Adventist church.
He attended a nearby primary & secondary school where he passed his Kenya Secondary Education certificate with flying colours, and got admitted at the Kenyatta University, where he pursued Bachelor of Arts in Education.
After completing his undergraduate studies at enrolled at the University of Nairobi for his master’s programme and pursued, MA in English.
Matiang’I would later enrolled for his doctorates studies in the same institution, specializing in Comparative literature.
After completing his education, Matiang’I taught at Egerton and University of Nairobi.
While working for these institutions of learning, the young scholar held various research and Programme implementation positions with various local and international organizations.
He also manage to consult extensively for respectable institutions such as USAID, the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA), the World Bank, The West Minister Foundation for Democracy, the Inter Parliamentary Union (IPU) and Transparency International.
Dr.Fred Matiangi has extensive experience in governance-related research, civil society advocacy, and donor-funded democracy and governance projects.
Before joining politics he was the Eastern Africa regional Representative for the Centre for International Development, Rockefeller College of Public Affairs and Policy, the State University of New York.
In 2013 he was appointed the Cabinet secretary for ICT by President Uhuru Kenyatta.
He served as the ICT boss until 24 November 2015, when President Uhuru, in a cabinet reshuffle, appointed him as the cabinet secretary for Education.
He is conversant in Swahili and English and has a working knowledge of French.
Fred is married and has two children.
